Berlin-Kreuzberg ist ihr Mikrokosmos. Überall ist Nora, die stille Beobachterin, mit dabei: Party, Schule, Freibad, Hausdach, Wohnung. Im Schlepptau ihrer großen Schwester und deren Freund*innen zieht sie um die immer gleichen Häuserblocks und fängt Eindrücke ein, die sich im sommerlichen Licht überblenden. Mädchen, die schlank und schön sein wollen. Jungs, die Sprüche klopfen – manchmal verliebt, oft provozierend. Fiese Handykameras und zerbrechliche Teenager*innen. Doch Nora hat ihren eigenen Blick auf die Welt, und als sie Romy kennenlernt, weiß sie warum. Musik liegt jetzt in der Luft, Noras Körper verändert sich und die Raupen spinnen ihre Kokons. Realitätsnah und stets aus der Perspektive der Hauptfigur fängt der Spielfilm den Sommer einer Wandlung ein.

Berlin-Kreuzberg is Nora‘s microcosm. Nora, the silent observer, is always tagging along: At parties, at school, at the pool, on rooftops and in apartments. Nora drifts around the monotonous housing blocks with her big sister and her friends, witnessing events that seem to cross-fade in the summer light. Girls who want to be slim and pretty, boys who say dumb things to provoke or because they are in love. Ruthless smartphone cameras and fragile teenagers. But Nora has her own way of looking at the world, and when she meets Romy, she realizes why. There is music in the air, Nora‘s body is changing, and caterpillars are spinning their cocoons. Realistic and taking on the protagonist’s perspective, this film captures a summer of change.

Between uproars and spa days

Hong Kong, July 28, 2019. Screaming, tear gas, gunfire. One, two, retreat from the front line, push forward. We are in the midst of Hong Kong's protests and uprisings last summer. We march with the masses, hiding behind the shields, seeing our comrades shouting commands, keeping moving, fainting, being carried away. Everything is chaotic and frightening, but still organized and controlled. For 15 minutes I hold my breath, my heart is racing and at the same time keeps skipping beats. It is suffocating. Incredibly suffocating to experience a day of the Hong Kong riots so close. In my holiday-influenced July, I did hear and read about the situation, but unfortunately I didn't learn about it too much.
